Citizen Matters – Urban Environment Reporting Fellowship, 2023 (Deadline 8/Nov)

Oorvani Foundation invites applications from early career reporters based in Delhi-NCR region for the “Citizen Matters – Urban Environmental Reporting Fellowship 2023”

Five young media professionals will have the opportunity to enhance their skills in environmental reporting and draw attention to the environmental challenges faced by Delhi-NCR, providing a comprehensive overview of systemic issues and their interconnectedness.

Fellows will attend talks and training sessions conducted by experts, receive guidance from mentors, and engage in peer learning groups. Over a three-month period, they will delve deeply into various concerns, initiatives, and potential solutions related to climate change, urban environment, and sustainability challenges in Delhi-NCR. The fellows will produce compelling stories on environmental issues that affect the residents of the Delhi-National Capital Region and explore responses to these problems. Their work will spotlight innovative approaches and equitable solutions proposed by civic and environmental groups and policymakers.

Eligibility

The fellowship is open to professional journalists, including freelancers, in Print and New Media. Journalists who are currently employed in a media organisation are eligible to apply however they need to provide a a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their editor or reporting manager.

Additionally, researchers (working on environmental policy and related fields) and final year students with some writing experience may also be considered. Applicants should ideally possess between 1 to 3 years experience in journalism and be under the age of 30. However exceptions can be made on a case to case basis.

Expectations

Fellows must commit to attending training sessions and actively participating in reporting work from November 2023 to February 2024. During this period, fellows must submit the following: one (1) long-form article, one (1) multimedia article, and four (4) short reports or blog posts. Additionally, fellows are expected to maintain a journal to document their experiences and insights throughout the fellowship. Articles will be published in Citizen Matters and may also be republished by other media organisations with due permission and credit (including current employers or affiliated media of the fellow).
