We are very excited to share that Citizen Matters is one of the 12 global media organisations selected for the International Press Institute (IPI) ‘s ‘Local News Accelerator’ initiative, a three-month programme which will equip the cohort with skills and strategies to grow their audiences and empower their teams.
India’s cities have poor local news coverage, due to limited space and resources in newspapers, TV, and digital media. To add to this, there is information lost in social media silos. We see these problems leading to few people being fully aware of numerous local developments. We want to enable citizens and local groups to better engage, learn and contribute their knowledge and understanding of grassroots issues and interventions. We plan to build on our unique, collaborative engagement model and editorial values to strengthen public awareness of local issues, campaigns and events, creating opportunities for community connections and action.
Our team is looking forward to learning and engaging with a diverse pool of people from “glocal” media — from Indonesia to South Africa, and from Yemen to Ecuador.
