The Pallikaranai watershed region in the Kovalam sub-basin is among Chennai’s most flood-prone areas in South Chennai during the monsoon. Rapid urbanisation, shrinking wetlands, poor drainage, sewage pollution, and fragmented planning have increased ecological and flood-related risks across the region.
Several civic groups, researchers, and community organisations are actively working on flood mitigation, wetland protection, waste management, and climate resilience. However, these efforts often happen in silos, limiting opportunities for coordination and collective advocacy.
This half-day consultation session aims to bring together active groups and organisations working across the watershed region to share ongoing work, identify common concerns, strengthen collaboration, and develop a collective set of recommendations for the newly elected Government.
